Meet our current team of Student Ambassadors:

Student Ambassador Nellie - Upper Secondary

Nellie - Upper Secondary

Hello, my name is Nellie and I am from London, England. I am 15 years old and I have been a student at Mayfair International Academy since Stage 9. It has been an amazing two years. I love being a friendly face around the school and a helping hand to students and teachers. I love that our school contains different nationalities and is small and friendly. I would like to give support and confidence to my peers and younger students. They can come to me with any issue and I will be there to help, show kindness or lend a listening ear.

Elias - Stage 8

Hi, my name is Elias. I am 11 years old and my hobbies are judo and football. Mayfair Academy is like a family to me. It is a small, but quality school. I have lived in many countries and I have lots of experiences with different cultures. My Mom is Belgian and my Dad Haitan. I therefore speak English, French, some Arabic, some Dutch and I am learning Spanish. My Dad works in Unicef and when I am older I either want to have a job like his or to become a primatologist.

Student Ambassador Leire - Stage 7

Leire - Stage 7

Hi, I am Leire! I have been at Mayfair Academy since Foundation 2 and I have done so many things here for the first time, like reading my first book, meeting my first best friends, going on my first trip without my family and having my first poem published in a book. I love being at Mayfair because it feels like home – I can express myself and be who I want to be. I always have the support of the staff and the students and have had great teachers, who have taught me to be kind, gentle and curious. Every year is better than the last and this year I got to be a student ambassador! I wanted to become an ambassador because I like working with the younger children and helping others.

Student Ambassadors

Each year students in Stages 6 and up may apply for the position of Student Ambassador. Students of the Year from the previous academic year are normally automatically selected as ambassadors and, additionally, one student per Stage is offered the position.

Students apply for the role by submitting a letter detailing why they would like the role and what they believe they can contribute to the school. All applications are reviewed and candidates are interviewed. The successful candidates are selected by the Senior Management Team and the school directors with the following factors being taken into account:

  • Attendance and punctuality
  • Presentability
  • Involvement in and contribution to school events
  • General attitude towards school and schoolwork
  • Behaviour
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Communication skills
  • Understanding of the school values
  • Interest in helping others, including new students

Our student ambassadors attend regular meetings, led by members of our Senior Management Team and/or school directors and are given a number of responsibilities including:

  • Welcoming new and prospective students
  • Acting as a class representative during Ambassador Meetings
  • Representing the school during whole school events
  • Speaking at assemblies and other events
  • Raising awareness of the school ethos and values
  • Acting as a role model

Ambassadors are given opportunities to develop a range of skills and will be able to list this role on their CVs and applications to university. They will practice public speaking skills during weekly line-ups and other events and will be expected to assist in the preparation and execution of whole school events. They will have the opportunity to make a difference and to inspire others. Towards the end of the academic year, student ambassadors will speak to younger students about their experience and encourage others to apply for the position in future years.
