Throughout Stages 7, 8 and 9 students follow the Cambridge Secondary 1 programme, which sets clear learning objectives in English, Mathematics and Science. At this stage all learners study the following subjects:

Our Art and Design programme covers a wide range of topics that engage, challenge and inspire our students to create their own artwork. Throughout the programme learners will experiment with various artistic techniques, as well as learning about famous artists and artistic movements throughout history.

Cambridge Secondary 1 English enables learners to communicate confidently and effectively and to develop the skills to respond to a range of information, media and texts with understanding and enjoyment. Learners who follow this framework will develop a first language competency in English based on a curriculum designed to be successful in any culture and to promote cross-cultural understanding.

This curriculum framework develops learners’ speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in English. The curriculum has been developed in conjunction with Cambridge English Language Assessment and is based on the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), used across the world to map learners’ progress in English.

The Expo programme of study provides a lively and communicative approach to Modern Foreign Languages, underpinned by a clear grammatical foundation and is enhanced by the language immersion environment in which it is delivered. The course is designed to cater for a range of abilities, while encouraging learners to develop language skills through the lively and appealing content of the textbooks used.

Our geography programme is fully revised for the new Key Stage 3 programme of study and covers all topics with a thorough and motivating approach. The three-year course is designed to spark a passion for geography, while providing students with a solid grounding in the subject.

The Key Stage 3 history course combines intriguing content, in-depth historical investigation, meaningful tasks and a wealth of source material to develop students' understanding and skills. The programme is designed to cover the requirements of the revised National Curriculum for England in a dynamic and coherent three-year course.

Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is now part of the educational experience worldwide and regarded as the new 'literacy', alongside reading, writing and numeracy. We follow the Cambridge ICT Starters programme that introduces learners to the key ICT applications they need to achieve computer literacy and to understand the impact of technology on our daily lives.

The curriculum framework explores six content areas: number, algebra, geometry, measure, handling data and problem solving. The first five content areas are all underpinned by problem solving, which provides a structure for the application of mathematical skills. Mental strategies are also an important part of the number content. The curriculum focuses on principles, patterns, systems, functions and relationships, so that learners apply their mathematical knowledge and develop a holistic understanding of the subject.

Our Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) programme of study is designed to help students develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage many of the critical opportunities, challenges and responsibilities they will face as they grow up and in adulthood. The programme provides opportunities and experiences to help young people grow and develop as individuals, as members of families and as members of social and economic communities.

Our Physical Education (PE) programme has been designed in accordance with the revised National Curriculum with an aim to inspire and engage learners. Throughout Key Stage 3, students continue to develop skills in a range of sports and activities while practising key concepts and processes.

This curriculum framework covers four content areas: scientific enquiry, biology, chemistry and physics. Scientific enquiry is about considering ideas, evaluating evidence, planning investigative work, and recording and analysing data. The scientific enquiry objectives underpin biology, chemistry and physics, which are focused on developing confidence and interest in scientific knowledge. Environmental awareness and some history of science are also part of the curriculum.

As a British school in Spain, we are delighted to follow the 'Lengua Castellana' programme for all Spanish students. We follow the Anaya programme of study for secondary, allowing learners to work at their own pace through the recommended textbooks and workbooks. The Anaya scheme is designed to provide learners with useful tools for primary and secondary education, covering the basic skills with topics carefully selected to be of interest to each age range.

'Conocimiento del Medio' (Social and Natural Sciences) is incorporated into our Lengua Castellana classes, reinforcing students' knowledge about the Spanish culture, history, festivities and the geography of Spain.

Our Spanish as a Foreign Language programme follows a comprehensive scheme of work that fulfils the requirements of the Modern Foreign Languages Curriculum and is enhanced by our native Spanish teachers and the language immersion environment in which it is delivered. Learners develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills using appropriate Spanish language and grammar, while gaining accurate pronunciation and intonation. Our programme supports grammar skills, reading and translation of authentic texts, and spontaneous speaking as students are prepared for the IGCSE course and beyond.

*Students who are learning English as a foreign language may not attend French lessons until it is considered suitable for them to do so.

Friendship & Community

Secondary School - Mayfair International Academy Estepona Throughout the whole school, students are allocated to one of our four school tribes. Secondary students may participate in weekly inter-tribe sports competitions, as well as regular inter-tribe events with focus on other subjects.
